Grandview

Founded: Like Jerome and Southern View, the village of Grandview, which lies along North Grand Avenue east of Wheeler Avenue, was formed in 1939 so the village could obtain water from the city of Springfield.

The incorporation initiative began with a committee headed by Floyd Strode. Following approval by a referendum, the first village board meeting was held on July 31, 1939; Clarence Wolf was the first village president.

The water system was completed by July 1941. Other improvements have included a water department building in 1951, Grandview Park in the 1950s and a municipal building begun at Wesley and Reservoir in 1959.

Grandview voters rejected proposed annexation by the city of Springfield in 1980.

Today: Grandview had a population of 1,441 in 2010.
