Illustrations really are worth 10,000 words. Every SangamonLink author should be on the lookout for potential visual elements and include them whenever possible. Please provide captions for all illustrations with your article. Captions must identify the original source of the illustration.
Caution: Illustrations often pose copyright questions. Do your best to determine whether a photo or graphic is covered by copyright; if it is, either don’t use it or seek permission from the copyright holder for us to republish it. If you’re not sure of an illustration’s copyright status, discuss the issue with the project director.
My late father loved auctions, in particular he loved old documents from Civil War era. I have an old map that may be of interest to you.
I have a hand drawn illustration of Camp Butler. On the front it says “Plan of Camp Butler”. On the back it gives the name of who made it, but it’s old and illegible. I’m not sure who to contact.
Thank you, S Perry
Ms. Perry: Your best bet is the Sangamon Valley Collection (local history section) of Lincoln Library, Springfield’s public library. The library phone number is 217-753-4900, ext. 5632. Thanks for reading.
