Nancy and Alexander Humphreys (1828 pioneers)

Nancy Humphreys was a charter member of both the Sangamo Presbyterian (1828) and Second Presbyterian (1835) churches in Springfield.

John Todd Stuart places the residence of Nancy and Alexander Humphreys, as well as the site of Alexander’s blacksmith shop, near the northeast corner of Third and Adams streets in 1828 (it is No. 32 on the reconstructed map of 1828 Springfield).

The couple had moved to what is now Tovey (originally Humphreys) in Christian County by 1850.  They are buried in Bethany Cemetery near Lake Sangchris.bridge
